1. Introduction
UniGo+ ("UniGo+", "we", "us") is a college planning app for students and their parents or guardians. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the UniGo+ app and website, how we use and share it, and the choices you have.
We do not sell your personal information, we do not show advertising, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
2. Information We Collect
Account information
When you create an account we collect your name and email address. You can sign in with an email and password, with Sign in with Apple, or with Google. If you use Apple or Google, we receive the name and email address they share with us; we never see your Apple or Google password.
Your academic profile
To personalize your plan we collect the information you choose to enter, which may include:
- Whether you are a student or a parent or guardian
- School name, school level (middle school or high school), and grade
- GPA and SAT score
- Your dream college
- Your roadmap, including which steps you have completed, and cost estimates generated for you
Information parents add about their children
A parent or guardian can add a student to their account. For each student we collect the details the parent enters: first name, school, school level, grade, GPA, SAT score, dream college, and the student's roadmap. This information belongs to the parent's account.
Messages to the AI advisor
When you use the in-app advisor, the messages you write are processed to generate replies. See Section 4 for how AI features work.
College matching preferences
When you look for college matches, we use the preferences you choose, such as field of study, campus setting, and preferred locations, to generate suggestions.
Usage records
Each time an AI feature is used, we record your account ID, the type of request, the amount of processing it used, and the time. We use these records to prevent abuse, apply fair-use limits, and understand our costs. They do not contain the content of your messages.
Technical information
Like most online services, our hosting provider automatically records technical information such as IP address and request times in server logs, which are used for security and reliability.
Information that stays on your device
Your profile photo, saved college match results, appearance setting, and the name of your AI advisor are stored only on your device. They are not sent to us.
What we do not collect
We do not collect your location, contacts, photos library, health data, advertising identifiers, or payment card details.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Create and maintain your account and sign you in
- Build your personalized roadmap, college matches, cost estimates, and advisor replies
- Let parents and guardians follow the progress of the students they add
- Keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and apply fair-use limits
- Respond to your questions and support requests
- Tell you about important changes to the app or this policy
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell it or share it for others' marketing.
4. AI Features
The advisor, roadmaps, college matches, college overviews, and cost estimates are generated by artificial intelligence provided by OpenAI. Requests go from the app to our server, and our server sends only what each feature needs to OpenAI:
- Advisor: your recent messages in the conversation, your grade, and your dream college
- Roadmap: grade, school level, GPA, SAT score, and dream college
- College matches: GPA, SAT score, your matching preferences, and dream college
- College overviews and cost estimates: the name of the college
We do not send your name or email address to OpenAI. We do not save the content of advisor conversations on our servers, and a conversation is cleared from the app when you leave it. Please do not share sensitive personal information, such as passwords or financial details, in your messages.
Under OpenAI's API terms, information sent through its API is not used to train OpenAI's models by default, and OpenAI may keep it for a limited time to monitor for abuse. You can read more in OpenAI's privacy policy.
The advisor is an automated AI guide, not a human counselor. Its answers can be incomplete or wrong, so check important details, such as deadlines and admission requirements, with the college or your school counselor.
6. Subscriptions and Payments
UniGo+ Premium subscriptions are purchased through Apple's App Store. Apple processes all payments, and we never receive your payment card or billing details. The app checks with Apple on your device whether your subscription is active. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your Apple Account settings.
7. Data Storage and Security
Your account and profile information are stored with our hosting provider, Supabase. Information is encrypted in transit, and our hosting provider encrypts stored data. Access controls limit each account to its own records, and the credentials for our AI provider are kept on our server, never in the app. No method of storing or transmitting information is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and review our safeguards regularly.
Your information may be stored and processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate.
Earlier versions of UniGo+ saved some profile details to your private iCloud account. The current version does not use iCloud. Any data left there from an earlier version stays under your control, and you can remove it in your device's iCloud settings.
8. Data Retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, the information for any students you added, your usage records, and your sign-in account. Copies may remain in our hosting provider's backups and logs for a limited period before they are removed.
Information stored only on your device is removed when you delete the app.
9. Your Choices and Rights
You can:
- View and update your profile at any time in the app
- Delete your account and its data in the app: open Settings (the Profile tab, or the gear icon on a parent account) and tap Delete account
- Contact us to request a copy of your information, a correction, or deletion
Depending on where you live, such as California, the European Economic Area, or the United Kingdom, you may have additional rights, including the right to object to or restrict certain processing. We will respond to requests as required by applicable law. We do not send marketing emails.
10. Children and Teens
UniGo+ is intended for students aged 13 and older and for parents and guardians. Students under 13 should not create their own account. A parent or guardian may instead create a parent account and add their child.
Parents and guardians can review and update the information they have added about a student at any time, and can have it deleted by deleting their account or by contacting us. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without the consent of a parent or guardian, we will delete it.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date above, and if the changes are significant we will let you know in the app or by email before they take effect.
